This article does a good job of summing up blogs and all the wonderful ways they can be incorporated into your classroom. Blogs are a simple way to get your students involved in using technology as a way of expressing themselves and sharing their own thoughts and ideas with others. Blogs can also be used in a variety of ways, teachers can use them to showcase their students work, students can use them to comment and provide feedback on each other’s work (teachers and parents can comment as well) and it can be used as a tool for keeping parents informed of what is happening in their child’s classroom. Students also get the chance to work on their writing skills and become more aware of what they are writing with the use of blogs because they know that they are published works that can be viewed by others. I feel as though blogs make learning more fun and exciting for the students because it’s a different way of doing things. Blogs are also a great way for students to show their creativity and express themselves.

Hi Stacy,
I agree – I think students love the idea of blogs and it makes it exciting as well as the fact they will pay more attention to their writing because others will read it! It is also an excellent venue for parents to be involved with their child’s learning.
I agree with you both! I think the idea of a blog take the thought of actually working out of the assignement. It makes it seem fun! I also tend to think that they will put more effort into their blogs because other people will be able to view their work. I know I do!
Stacy,
I really like the idea of allowing students to set up and use blogs in the classroom. I think that allows them to take pride in the work they are doing and they feel like their work has more value because they can share it with the world. As a parent, now that I know how awesome blogs can be, I truely wish my childrens’ teachers would have used blogs in their classrooms. My oldest has been in school for 10 years and has never had a teacher use anything like a blog in the classroom. Now that I can see what they are missing out on it makes me sad. I think you are so right when you say that blogs make learning fun and exciting and I can’t see why we wouldn’t want to use such an easy tool to help our students learn.
Good to see the way you all comment on each other’s work! Think about the scaffolding required from the teacher…what makes these Internet Workshops effective?
